Christmas in July Blog Hop

Hard to wrap my head around anything Christmas right now, but its really never to soon to start preparing. My goal in life is to have everything ready before December starts, including our Christmas cards. HAHA Yeah...Right...

My first priority was using this gorgeous stocking die. I immediately knew it needed to be inlayed with glitter paper, which also allowed me to make three at the same time. Win Win. The process is simple but slightly time consuming. Cut it the three times from different paper, then start piecing them together. 

I really wanted the stocking to stay the focal point, so a simple design with lots of white space worked. Some old patterned Christmas paper down the side gave it a tad more interest. 

For my sentiments, I heat embossed white onto black cardstock and did some fussy cutting. They went onto a basic tag die. I made some simple bow embellishments using coordinating twine and strategically glued it down. A small banner at the bottom completed the sentiments but also help to fill the void space. For that I just raided my Christmas sets to find some basic sayings. (These happen to be from some old Lawn Fawn sets.)

I loved this sparkle paper, it was thin and didn't leave a glitter mess behind. In fact the paper is quite smooth, a unique characteristic. They even sell in in an assortment of colours and even a variety pack. Plus the sparkle of these cards is out of this world but of course impossible to capture in a photo.

Pretty Gift Tags Using Grow | A Muse Studios Guest Designer

To make it stand out I gold embossed it on white and left the rest blank to write your note.

A Muse Studio has some really pretty twines and ribbon, I used a few different kinds here to coordinate with my water-coloured images.

You're Super Cool | Simple All Occasion Card

Isn't this little knitting lamb so cute? He's from the Mama Elephant Wooly Winter set. 

I thought this would make a great all occasion kind of card for a friend. Especially a friend that likes to knit, obviously. 

I used a tiny bit of masking for the yarn ball pile, but you can do that with any piece of paper. 

Everything was coloured with Copics. I like to colour the lamb with a gentle swirling motion to give the texture of curly wool. I use light greys to keep the appearance of a white lamb with dimension.

I heat embossed my sentiment in black, using this saying from a Clearly Besotted stamp set. I made a long banner and gave it a black mat, to ground the card and give my images something to sit on.

I put foam behind my panel and a strip of coordinating paper on the right. I think this just gives it some more interest.

 Of course to finish it off I had to add some enamel dots.

Patterned Paper Die-Cutting | Thank You Card

I'll be honest, this card didn't turn out the way I had envisioned. I did love playing with patterned paper, but sometimes it can be just too much.

It was a really easy card, with zero stamping and/or colouring!

My favourite part is the silver Paper Smooches sentiment, it is really beautiful. I die cut it a second time using fun foam so I could layer it.

I think my disappointment came from my use of the Concord & 9th heart die. The patterns I chose were just too distracting. I'm going to try and use it on my next card and hopefully will have learned a lesson or two about what would work.

In an attempt to save the card I placed a piece of vellum over the patterned paper. I think it tones it down and makes the heart more subtle.
