This chunky beaver is too cute!

I really wanted to make my kids some bookmarks for all their summer reading.
To play up the bucky beaver teeth I used a Smile word die from MFT Stamps because I thought this sentiment I created was would be hilarious to my kids.

I wanted it to be really fun and chose to make it into a shaker bookmark. This was an great opportunity to pull out the Fuse tool and put it to work. In hindsight, I wouldn't have used the seed beads, as they are just to chunky (duh!) but they really make it a lot of fun.

The background I quickly ink-blended with some red-toned Hero Arts inks, in order to give it a little interest. Then out came my trusty Copics to do some quick colouring on the images.

The finishing touches like the silver grommet and red ribbon tie it all together. My favourite part is this awesome tag die with the maple leaf. I know I will be pulling that out often, if not for just the maple leaf die.

Your next stop is with Amber Trubiak at http://foreverambersart.blogspot.ca/

Happy Happy Birthday Using Hooray & Birthday Balloons | A Muse Studio Guest Designer

|

I am Guest Designing for A Muse Studio again today!
You can check that out here.
I used two gorgeous sets and had a lot of fun!

I feel like Birthday Balloons is a set that everyone needs in their collection. Its classic shapes and the coordinating dies are awesome for birthday cards.

Using the balloons I did second generation stamping to make a subtle background. These high quality red rubber stamps are perfect every time and make this technique so easy.

I also used the sweet bear from Hooray and a sentiment. I think the gold embossing details make the subtle colours of this card really pop.

Thanks so much for stopping by and thanks to A Muse Studio again for having me! Stay tuned for more projects all month long.

Bright Copic Colouring | 30 Day Colouring Challenge

|

This card is a product of all my colouring for the 30 Day Colouring Challenge hosted by The Daily Marker.  I took my time and coloured maybe one bird a day which may seem slow but life is busy. Also the point of the challenge is not to make a masterpiece everyday, it is to take even a few minutes for yourself to relax and do something you love. So I consider this a success for me. There is even still time to join in for the month of March.

These images are from MFT Stamps Polynesian Paradise, another of my favourites. I googled Toucans and Parrots and found some photos that really stood out to me and tried to emulate the bright colours.

Blending bright colours together with Copic markers can be pretty tricky. The brighter colours want to pick up the colour of the darker shades. So being careful and methodical was my best bet here, laying down the light colours first and keeping a light hand with my darker shades.

Warm wishes and sunny smiles to all of you!!

Simple Watercolouring Backgrounds | Make it With Your Kids Series #2

|

This is one of my favourite backgrounds to make using Distress Inks. It is so simple, quick and cool looking.

Using Copic markers I coloured my bear and birdies. To get the textured look you gently make dots, overlapping with different intensities. It gives a great furry bear look.

I used some stamps from Lawn Fawns Let's Party and PA-RUM-PA-PUM-PUM (which is a Christmas set). I loved the bear image and the saying that went with it. To make it work for this non-Christmas card I used some masking to block out 'Christmas' and added 'Birthday' from the other set.

I didn't get very fancy with my sentiment, I wanted the focus to be mainly on the background.

I did decide after the fact to frame out the panel with some Kraft coloured cardstock, to tie in the brown bear.

Adding some little white embellishments finished it off.

I hope you enjoyed this card!
Thanks for visiting and I'll see you next time!

Birthday Boy Card

|

This card is proof that we all have 'off' days. I was able to salvage it, see how it all worked out in the end in todays video. Please visit my channel to subscribe!

I loved using these Avery Elle Count on It number dies. To make one number stand out I popped it forward and have the rest recessed back. I made them rainbow using some Distress Ink blending.

After changing directions, as you saw in my video, I put a strip of stripes and glitter paper to give it some more interest. My sentiment is from the MFT Stamps, Adorable Elephants. This is great birthday sentiment I know I will use a lot.

Thanks for joining me today.
